Respite Support provided by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allows its participants to take a brief break from one’s home environment in order to explore new experiences, socialize with new people and acquire new skills. This will also help the carers of those participants to put aside their routine responsibilities and focus on improving their physical and mental well-being. Short-Term Accommodation, including respite, is funded under the Core Supports budget in a participant’s NDIS plan. This support is significantly beneficial for those participants whose informal support system is not available for a short period of time.
Short Term Accommodation, including respite, is a very important support as it will help the carers of the participants to avoid burnout and help the participants to try new things without compromising on the quality of support that they usually receive. Through their Respite Support Care funding participants can cover the cost of their accommodation, food, personal care and assistance to attend capacity-building activities at a different location for a maximum of 14 days at a time. It will help the participants to expand their social circle and boost their morale. Taking short breaks from the routine to rejuvenate your mind and body is also crucial for increasing productivity and reducing stress. The NDIS can fund up to 28 days of Short-Term Accommodation in a year.
