Description
Before the concrete is poured, post-tensioning tendons, which are prestressing steel cables enclosed in plastic ducts or sleeves, are put in the forms. The cables are then drawn tight, or tensioned, and fastened against the outside borders of the concrete after the concrete has achieved strength but before the service loads are applied.
Post-tensioned concrete has the same appearance and properties as ordinary reinforced concrete. Simply said, post-tensioning is a more engaging form of reinforcement.
